Becoming a member of Saginaw County ARES/RACES requires the following:

 


(Amateur Radio Emergency Service - ARRL affiliated)

  • An Amateur Radio License, or the desire to train and receive one.
  • Willingness to show up, participate and train to respond to and assist during emergencies in the county, and surrounding communities.
  • Completing Homeland Security IS-100 and IS-700 courses
  • (ARES members are required to attend a minimum of 4 training and/or exercise/drills, public service events to maintain active status each year)

This is changing to AUXCOM
(Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service - State of Michigan and Michigan State Police affiliated)
  • An Amateur Radio License, or the desire to train and receive one.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation
  • Completing Homeland Security IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800 courses
  • Willingness to show up, participate and train to respond to and assist during emergencies in the county, and surrounding communities.
  • Earning your ID Card, issued by the authority of the Michigan State Police Office of Emergency Management, Saginaw County Emergency Management
